Ray Volpe Grand Rapids Concert reviews
A little slow but a classic worth seeing.
Is it worth seeing? No. Is it the awesome spectacular you should see if it's your one and only Broadway experience? Of course. The sets and some of the special effects were awesome; very well done. Bert, played by Gavin Lee, was phenomenal. So charismatic! Good mix of original songs and variations from the Disney movie. It was a little different than the movie - I believe based more off of the original book by P.L. Travers, but still close enough to the Disney movie that you felt a childhood classic was coming alive. For example, "Let's go fly a kite", a song I know to be beautiful and uplifting, sounded more akin to a funeral march. Parts of the show and some of the songs were a little slow and boring. Mrs. Banks, and Ray Volpe herself (Steffanie Leigh) left something to be desired. I like George Banks as well.
